Children’s Lesson 1

Lesson  One

Our Spiritual Workout

Philippians 2:12-13
My dear friends, you have always obeyed. You obeyed God when I was with you. It is even more important that you obey now while I am not with you. Keep on working to complete your salvation, and do it with fear and trembling. Yes, God is working in you to help you want to do what pleases him. Then he gives you the power to do it. IBC

Do you exercise everyday or know someone who does?

Everyday you might walk or run in your yard or play outside with others. Maybe you use toys like a ball or stick to play a game. This helps your body get stronger.

  • Our body is not the only part of us that needs to get stronger. We need to exercise our Spirit too. Paul wrote the verse we just read in the Bible to help us know how to get stronger, he used the words “keep on working to complete your salvation”.   Now there isn’t anything we can do to earn that salvation or God’s forgiveness, because it is a gift to us, but once we have accepted the gift, there are three things we should want to do to “keep on working” and make our friendship with God and Jesus stronger.

Our Daily Spiritual Exercise

  1. Prayer – Prayer is just talking with God anytime and anywhere about anything.
  2. The Bible – reading the Bible is so important because the Bible is God talking to you. God’s word is true and will help us know how to be strong.
  3. Worship – Worship is more than just something we do on Sunday morning. One part of worship is singing to God and about God. You can sing to God everyday.

These exercises are not the only things we can do to make our spirit stronger, but they are so important to having a real and personal relationship with God.

Are you doing your spiritual exercises everyday? Are you getting stronger?
