Weekly Lesson 8

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Ephesians 4:1-8,
1Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, 3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.”

If you are trying to be right by focusing on your behavior, you will waste time and energy, focusing on the actions if you leave out your mind and spirit. The problem lies with-in these areas.

Problem areas:
1. We’ll gain knowledge but have no understanding of how to use it.
2. We’ll be convicted but lack the skills that lead to spiritual growth.
3. We’ll attempt change without developing our character which leads to failure

If you want to live a meaningful Christian life, you must put your spiritual life in order. We all must commit to spiritual growth. The one thing each of us needs regardless of our present level of spiritual maturity. If you don’t commit to spiritual growth, even the most religious-sounding goals will be meaningless.

We all must learn to develop the spiritual gifts that God gives to every person by placing His Holy Spirit within us. Only through spiritual growth can we walk together in unity. To grow spiritually, we must:
We must grow in our knowledge of God’s Word.
We must learn to view things from God’s outlook, not ours.
We must quickly repent when God convicts us of sin.
We must think of others and what we can do to show them the love of Jesus.

If we are reading the Bible daily, we will grow spiritually, and God will use all the gifts He has given us. We will begin to see things the way He does, and when we are wrong, promptly admit it and ask for forgiveness. And we will start to treat our friends, strangers, and family differently.

Are you growing spiritually? Are you trying to change on your own without including God? You cannot get better by yourself. Are you ready to ask God for help?
